ZARIA Study – Implementation of syndrome-level empiric antibiotic recommendations using the AR. IA App: a pilot study in Lusaka, Zambia: Research Protocol

The ZARIA study aimed to perform and evaluate the first use of the AR: IA app for developing local antibiotic prescribing guidelines in a low-middle income setting: in the adult medical departments of Kanyama General Hospital (KGH) and the Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital (LMUTH) in Lusaka, Zambia. The AR:IA app is an interactive web app which we have previously developed to give prescribing recommendations for common infections by integrating information on (1) the amount of resistance that is present in bacteria to antibiotics, (2) the types of bacteria that cause common infections along with (3) the availability and cost of antibiotics.
